In the past years Split is a fastest growing tourist destination, is managed to avoid so called July hole and ended the last month with a plus number of arrivals and overnight stays. The nearby airport, however, ended July with a historic result.

“By the stats of eVisitor system, the area of Split scored 189.547 visits and 630.467 overnight stays, which is 5% more in visits and 4% more in overnight stays compared to the previous year. Most tourists came from the United Kingdom, the United States, France and Germany”, the Split Tourist Board reported.

In the total period since the beginning of this year, there were 517,422 arrivals and 1,484,138 overnights in the city, which is an increase of 9% in arrivals and 10% in overnight stays, according to the Tourist Board.

In the period since last summer, seven new hotels have been opened in Split, and now there are a total of 45 hotels, while by the next season a few larger facilities with several hundred rooms are expected to open. For the first time this year, there has been a double increase in the number of hotel beds compared to private accommodation.

Split Airport also released its statistics for the past month on Friday: over 700,000 passengers (723,048) were passed through this airport for the first time, which is the best monthly result not only in the history of Croatian but also regional airports, including ten times bigger Beograd.

Last year, 3.12 million passengers passed through the airport, just 215,000 fewer than on the Zagreb Airport, and with the planned growth of eight percent and the opening of a dozen new lines, the difference is expected to be even smaller at the end of 2019.

Split Ferry Port also records heavy passenger traffic and, according to Danijela Ivanović of Jadrolinija, 90,000 passengers and 17,000 vehicles are expected in the three days of the weekend.

"This and next weekend are the strongest weekends in arrivals and departures. Passengers travel the most to Brac and Hvar. Today we also have 150 vehicles for Ancona so this weekend will be really good in terms of passengers and traffic, "said Mrs. Ivanović for Hina.
