The Via Dinarica trail encompasses the largest karst field on earth. Movement of plate tectonics have created a vertebrae-like limestone chain that have aligned themselves over 1,000 kilometers through the heart of the western Balkans.
The heart of the Dinaric Alps cuts through northern Montenegro and most of Bosnia and Herzegovina before reaching the Croatian coastlines of the Adriatic Sea. Making it an excellent place to observe dynamic and stunning landscapes.
Being 145km long, Velebit is the longest stretch of mountains in the whole of Croatia. The area is protected as a nature park and the south part of Velebit and Paklenica is a national preserved treasure, full of diversity and beauty, perfect for any nature lover. The largest peak reaches 1.757m and overlooks Lici and the sea.
On request there can be an arranged transfer to and from the starting point of the hike in the Old Town available from: Zadar, Biograd na moru, Šibenik, Split. From there we will walk up towards Velebit mountain to the peak of Šatorina and Zečjak (1622m) and will have the opportunity to enjoy a mountain picnic and rest.
