Mljet is an island found on the southernmost and easternmost parts of the larger Adriatic islands of the Dalmatia region of Croatia. The National Park includes the western part of the island, Veliko jezero, Malo jezero, Soline Bay and a sea belt. It is an anicent island rich in history and culutre firstly discovered by ancient Greco-Roman geographers. The island was first described in the 6th century BC. Greeks called the island "Melita" or "honey" which evolved to become the Slavic name, Mljet. The island is not only magical due to its untouched nature but there comes plenty of mystic stories deriving from this place one is Odysseus cave: according to Greek legend, Odysseus was saved after being ship wrecked on the island and swam to the cave where he met a beautiful nymph Calypso. He stayed, captivated by the nymph for the next seven years. The excursion starts with a ferry ride from the port Prapratno near Ston. Upon arrival to Sobra ferry port in Mljet, the cycling part of the excursion begins. Cycling from the ferry port to the first stop, Odysseus cave we take a break for sightseeing and also have a snack before we continue in the direction of the National park MljetThe National Park is a large area that borders two salt water lakes. Right in the middle of the Large Lake there is a small island called Melita (St. Mary) with a large building of the former Benedictine monastery now turned a restaurant and is connected by boats from both sides of the Lake. We carry on the tour by cycling around the lakes and then heading toward a small place named Polače where we can have a taste of the local cuisine in one of the restaurants, right before the car brings us back to the ferry port to return to Prapratno. Upon request there can can be a transfer to and from the ferry.
