This mountaintop residence resides about an hour and a half from Sarajevo on Bjelasnica mountain sitting at an altitude of 1,495m, and is recognised for being the highest and most isolated permanent settlement in Bosnia, however roughly two years ago residents started moving down in the months of winter, many to their families in Sarajevo. Tombstones originating from the 14th and 15th century are scattered around the village and suggest that it was inhabited for hundreds of years. The homes in the area are made of stone while their roofs are composed of wooden tiles. The Rakitnica canyon is located nearby and is said to be the origin of a dragon by local folklore. It is a unique cultural example that has stood the test of time and is surrounded by serene untouched beauty providing stunning scenery and many mountain views to admire. Perfect for any nature lover looking to learn about history and enrich their experience. The start point of the tour can either be Mostar or Sarajevo where there is a transfer to the start point of Lukomir village. On request there can be a lunch with specialities of local cuisine and a transfer back to start point. The tour includes walking around the village and surrounding mountains.
