Motuvan: Discover the heritage with a guide

In our guided tour, we will climb to Motovun, who is located on a hill in central Istria above the southern shore in which through the middle flows the river Mirna at 277 m above sea level. Old architecture and cobblestone streets lead to the lower gate dating back to the 15th century. Behind the gate is the lower square and at the end the city hall. Opposite the entrance lies the walled city as old as the 13th century and where ancient treasures of the past are found through architecture and culture. As well as this there is sights in the upper square which is dominated by the church bell from the 17th century, along whit the Romanesque-Gothic bell tower from the 13th century. On the other side of the square is the municipal palace, which climbs along the city walls that surrounds this uniquely beautiful village.

Experience breathtaking views from the walls of the Mirna valley: vineyards and Motovun´s untouched forest and hills, where settlements are located and building facades with their many emblems. Motovun is related to a legend that tells a tale from long ago, in the valley of the river Mirna giants lived. They were so big that they overlooked the towns on the hills above Mirna and made homes from hand tools and big stones. One of the towns that was built was Motovun. Much later when Istria was inhabited by ordinary people, the Giants began to disappear. Today Motovun is known for its cultural events in the summer and noticed for it´s old history and architecture complimented by scenic settings. In July there is the Motovun Film Festival and in June the ballooning competition as well as a hot air balloon festival in October, most of the season you can enjoy truffles and wine along with many other wonders.
