Velebit is part of the Via Dinarica trail which encompasses the largest karst field on earth. Movement of plate tectonics have created a limestone chain that have aligned themselves over 1,000 kilometres through the heart of the western Balkans making it an excellent place to observe dynamic and stunning landscapes. 145km long, Velebit is the longest stretch of mountains in the whole of Croatia.
The area is protected as a nature park and the south part of Velebit and Paklenica is a national preserved treasure, full of diversity and beauty, perfect for any nature lover. The largest peak reaches 1.757m and overlooks Lika and the sea.
