Railroad of Ciro, Trebinje & Herzegovina vineyards: Cycle and discover our heritage
Start point: Trebinje
The Ćiro railway is remembered in history for its steam locomotives, it passes through the Herzegovinian landscapes starting from Mostar, along the Neretva river, all the way across the Croatian border, ending in Dubrovnik. The construction of this trail began in 1898 and ended in 1901. Today, that path has been converted into a bicycle path.
We start the day driving from Trebinje, passing through the village and its preserved natural paths. The road leads through Popovo Polje, where we pass the old Ravno and Zavala railway stations, which have been converted into restaurants. We continue our route through other old stations and the wine road all the way to the town of Trebinje.
Vjetrenica Cave and Ćira Railway Museum
The windmill, also known as the blower, is the largest cave in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the world, this cave is one of the richest in terms of underground biological diversity: more than two hundred different species have been registered in it.
Break: Restaurant Zavala
The museum is located near the cave, where there is a beautiful converted railway station that has been converted into a restaurant.
Wine Road: Eastern Herzegovina
We cycle back to Trebinje along the wine road in the heart of Herzegovina, the most important vineyard in the region, getting to know the local tradition of producing the famous Žilavka and Blatina wine varieties. There we will visit the Winery for wine tasting and a cheese and ham plate.
Wine and tasting; Tvrdoš Monastery
