Crikvenica is located in Kvarner Bay in the Adriatic Sea. The settlement was established on the site of the Roman station Ad turres.
The whole town of Crikvenica is in fact a riviera with a row of almost connected small tourist places: Selce, Crikvenica, Dramalj and Jadranovo. Besides the road, Crikvenica can be reached by sea or air. Yachtmen will find berth for boats and yachts in the town harbor or in a small harbor, the nearby marina in Punat offers winter berthing. On the island of Krk is the Rijeka airport, which is only twenty kilometers far from Crikvenica.
The main reason for vacation in Crikvenica for more than a hundred years is a mild pleasant micro-climate that allowed the development of health tourism.
The long sandy and pebble beaches with many facilities for children are linked into natural walkway.
Fishing Week is one of the oldest events in Crikvenica and there is well known Summer Carnival.
During the season there are various folk performances, concerts, art exhibitions, fishing nights on the waterfront, regattas , diving center with diving school and various water sports.

The region is connected with the rest of the country and Europe through Airport Rijeka (Krk), Bus Station Crikvenica, Train station Rijeka and Jadrolinija Rijeka.
Besides the numerous hotel offers there are rooms and apartments in private accommodation, villas, stone houses, resorts,bungalows and campsites.

Organized boat excursions to the islands of Rab and Krk (Baška, Njivice, Vrbnik, Klimno, Krk, Omišalj, Punat, cave Biserujka), a small island Košljun, where the Franciscan monastery is, with a valuable sacral, ethnographic and literary heritage,
There are also organized excursions to national parks (Plitvice Lakes, Brijuni, Risnjak, Northern Velebit and Krka).
Besides the standard fish and meat dishes, only in area of crikvenica guests can taste Crikveničke rupice, Slani  vinćoli na svetojelenski, Prežganica z baškoton na jakovarski, Frankopanska torta, Selački puhanci, which are all domestic dishes.
In July 2010 Crikvenica gained the first beach for pets, which is located next to the harbor Podvorska on the top of the pier.
